Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee an underground mining services contract situated on a flourishing gold mine in West Africa. In this role, you will manage all aspects of underground activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and successful project execution. The Project Manager will collaborate closely with on-site teams, client representatives and company leadership to achieve project goals and maintain the highest safety and quality execution. The client is a listed multi-billion gold producer with numerous operations in production across Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the underground mining services contract, including project planning, execution, and monitoring;
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety by enforcing all relevant regulations, company policies, and best practices;
  • Supervise and mentor a diverse team of mining professionals to ensure optimal project performance;
  • Develop and implement efficient mining strategies, equipment utilisation plans, and scheduling to meet targets and project timelines;
  • Foster positive and productive relationships with the client, addressing concerns, providing updates, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Manage project budgets, cost control, and resource allocation to achieve financial targets and profitability;
  • Maintain accurate records, reporting on project progress, key performance indicators, and safety incidents to both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Be prepared to manage and respond to emergencies, incidents, and unexpected challenges, prioritising the safety of all personnel.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a similar UG Project/Mining Manager role within the industry, particularly in a mechanized underground mining environment;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in various underground stoping methods and high-speed mechanized jumbo decline development mining;
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills;
  • Experience working as an expatriate in an African context is highly desirable;
  • Possession of formal qualifications relevant to project management and mining operations;
  • Project experience during production ramp-up phases is a plus.
